MUMBAI – Active pre-monsoon weather conditions have kept temperatures in check in most parts of the country in the past few days. No heatwave conditions were observed in any region, though isolated temperatures of around 40 degrees Celsius were recorded in a few parts, private weather forecasting agency Skymet said. Pre-monsoon rainfall and thunderstorms are likely to continue over several parts of India, keeping heatwave conditions away for 10 days or more, the weather agency said.

Northeast south peninsular India recorded scattered to fairly widespread rain and thundershowers in the past 24 hours, the weather agency said. Day temperatures have remained largely in check over most parts of the country. Some pockets in Gujarat, Rajasthan, east Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh recorded temperatures in excess of 40 degrees Celsius. However, these temperatures did not meet the heatwave thresholds, the agency said.

Currently, a western disturbance lies over the northern mountains, while a cyclonic circulation lies over Rajasthan. These weather systems will keep up the spell of pre-monsoon showers and thunderstorms over north India during the week. Dust storms with spells of rainfall and strong winds are also expected to lash parts of this region. Similar weather conditions are likely to persist in most parts of India, keeping heatwave conditions away for the next 10 days or more, the agency said.  End
