MUMBAI – The house price index compiled by the Reserve Bank of India rose 4.2% on year in the Jan-Mar quarter of financial year 2025-26 (Apr-Mar), compared with a 3.8% growth in the year-ago quarter, the central bank said Friday. At 4.2%, this is the quickest on-year rise in the house price index in five quarters.
"The increase was primarily driven by cities such as Nagpur, Jaipur, Chandigarh and Kanpur," RBI said in a press release. The house price index rose 0.2% on quarter to 115.9 in the March quarter, the central bank said.
The RBI compiles the house price index quarterly using transaction-level data from the registration authorities. The index has 2022-23 (Apr-Mar) as the base year and covers 18 major cities, including Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Lucknow, Thane, Gautam Buddha Nagar, and Chandigarh. End
