MUMBAI – Multiple weather systems over east India and the Bay of Bengal are likely to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall over parts of Odisha, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands till Saturday, and over Bihar on Saturday, the India Meteorological Department said. Thundersqualls with wind speeds of up to 80 kilometre per hour are also likely over parts of Odisha and Jharkhand till Saturday, and over Bihar on Saturday, IMD said.
The southwest monsoon wave remains in the same position as Wednesday. Conditions are favourable for its advancement into parts of the Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep, and the Bay of Bengal in the next two to three days, IMD said.
The monsoon is likely to advance over the Arabian Sea, the Bay of Bengal, and parts of the extreme south peninsula, Kerala in particular, and northeast India, in the next one week, IMD said in its second stage forecast of the 2026 monsoon Friday.
The monsoon wave has triggered weather systems across the country, which is likely to cause rainfall, thundersqualls, and thunderstorms across the country. A rise in showers is expected to reduce maximum temperatures in most parts of India.
Heavy rainfall is expected over most parts of south peninsular India till Thursday, IMD said. Thundersqualls with wind speeds of 50–60 km per hour and a peak of 70 km per hour are expected over parts of Andhra Pradesh till Sunday.
In northeast India, heavy rainfall is expected to persist in many parts till Thursday, IMD said. Most parts of northwest India are likely to face thundersqualls with wind speeds of 70 km per hour, and a peak of 80 km per hour till Saturday. Heavy rainfall is likely over parts of west Uttar Pradesh till Saturday. Hailstorms are expected over parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Rajasthan till Saturday. IMD has also warned of dust storms in parts of west Rajasthan till Tuesday, and over east Rajasthan till Saturday.
Thundersqualls and heavy rainfall are likely over parts of Madhya Pradesh till Monday, while hailstorms are expected over the region till Saturday, IMD said. Thundersqualls are also expected over parts of Chhattisgarh till Sunday, and over Vidarbha till Monday. Hailstorms are seen over Chhattisgarh till Saturday, and over Vidarbha during the weekend, IMD said.
In west India, heavy rainfall is expected over Gujarat from Sunday to Tuesday. Light to moderate rainfall thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are likely over most parts of the region till Thursday.
Heatwave conditions have reduced across many parts of northwest India and are likely to ease further in parts of central India in the next few days, IMD said. Heatwaves are expected in some parts of Telangana, and west Madhya Pradesh till Saturday. Maximum temperatures in many parts of northwest and central India, and Maharashtra and Gujarat are expected to fall by 2–7 degrees Celsius, and remain in the lower range till Thursday. End
