Canada Minister Sidhu says trade mission to visit India later this year

NEW DELHI – A Canada Trade Mission team will visit India later this year for Canadian businesses to explore the opportunity of expanding their presence in the Indian market, Canada's Minister of International Trade Maninder Sidhu said. Commerce Minister Goyal concluded his three-day visit to Canada Thursday. During the visit, both the sides reaffirmed commitment to strengthen bilateral trade and investment ties.
"Both Ministers reiterated their commitment to advancing an ambitious and mutually beneficial Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement and affirmed their shared objective of concluding negotiations by the end of this year," a government release said Friday. The trade agreement negotiations started after the two sides signed the terms of reference in March 2025. India and Canada held virtual talks in March, followed by a second round that concluded on May 8. The countries will also aim to deepen cooperation across complementary sectors like clean energy, critical minerals, agrifood, advanced manufacturing, digital technologies, and skills development.
In In 2025-26 (Apr-Mar), India exported goods worth $4.67 billion to Canada, while imports were to the tune of $3.29 billion. The two countries also agreed to continue encouraging long-term investment in priority sectors and to support deeper collaboration between businesses, innovators, and institutional partners in both countries. The ministers committed to maintain regular dialogue and advancing concrete outcomes in the months ahead, the release said. End
