India receives 14.4 mm rainfall in week to Wed, 3% below normal, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received 14.4 millimetres of rainfall in the week ended Wednesday, 3% below the normal of 14.9 millimetres for the period, according to the India Meteorological Department. The country received an average rainfall of 121.7 mm during the pre-monsoon season as of Wednesday, 1% above the normal of 120.8 mm. The pre-monsoon season runs from March to May.
Out of the four homogeneous regions of the country, two received below-normal and two got above-normal rainfall during the week, the weather bureau said. Rainfall in South Peninsular India was 57% above normal at 25.7 mm, while east and northeast India got 2?ove normal at 48.3 mm. Precipitation in northwest India was 48?low normal at 4.2 mm during the week. In central India, the rainfall was 75% below normal at 1.2 mm.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, one received no rain, 15 got 'large deficient' rainfall, and four received 'deficient' rainfall during the week. Rainfall was normal in six subdivisions, 'large excess' in seven subdivisions and 'excess' in three, the weather department said. End
