NEW DELHI – Tehran Tuesday issued a stern warning to the US that the Islamic republic will not let any act of aggression against it go unanswered and will show "not the slightest hesitation" in defending its sovereignty. The warning came after the US launched fresh strikes on southern Iran, boosting tension in the region and threatening the fragile ceasefire that has held for nearly seven weeks now.
In a statement, Iran's foreign ministry accused the US of committing a "flagrant violation" of the ceasefire reached on Apr. 8, adding that the action "exposed the dishonesty and unreliability" of the US establishment.
The US Central Command Monday said it had launched new strikes on southern Iran, targeting Iranian missile sites and boats attempting to place mines in the Strait of Hormuz. It said the strikes were in "self-defence" and designed "to protect our troops from threats posed by Iranian forces".
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemns these aggressive actions, which constitute a clear violation of Article 2(4) of the Charter of the United Nations, as well as the ceasefire agreement dated Apr. 8, 2026, and holds the American regime fully responsible for all consequences arising from these aggressive acts," the ministry said in its statement.
Tehran also denounced what it called "repeated acts of maritime piracy against Iranian commercial vessels" by US forces, and "hostile and criminal conduct toward the people of Iran".
"Without any doubt, the Islamic Republic of Iran will leave no act of aggression unanswered and will show not the slightest hesitation in defending the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Iran," it said.
Separately, Seyed Majid Moosavi, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Aerospace Force, said his forces are prepared for "a decisive, swift response" to ceasefire violations. "The treacherous enemy has once again violated the ceasefire during the time of negotiations. The Aerospace Force of the IRGC is prepared for a decisive, swift response and the implementation of measures ordered by the esteemed commander-in-chief," Moosavi said in a post on X. End
