NEW DELHI – Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met Saturday and discussed the progress in the Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership between the two countries. The two leaders also discussed issues of regional and global peace, and India and the US will work closely for the global good, Modi said on social media platform X, formerly Twitter.
Rubio shared the US perspective on the situation in West Asia and other global issues, along with the progress in bilateral cooperation across various sectors, the Indian government said in a release. The prime minister reiterated India's support for a peaceful resolution of conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy. The other topics of discussion included defence, strategic technologies, trade and investment, energy security, connectivity, education, and people-to-people ties.
Rubio invited the Indian prime minister to visit the White House in the near future on behalf of US President Donald Trump, US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor posted on social media. He termed India a vital partner to the US. "We had a productive discussion on ways to deepen US-India cooperation across security, trade, and critical technologies - areas that strengthen both our nations and advance a free and open Indo-Pacific," Gor said. The government release said Prime Minister Modi conveyed his warm greetings to Trump.
The US' top diplomat landed in India earlier Saturday and visited the Missionaries of Charity in Kolkata. He will meet his Indian counterpart, S. Jaishankar, for a bilateral meeting on Sunday. After visits to Agra and Jaipur on Monday, Rubio will take part in Quadrilateral Security Dialogue's foreign ministers' meeting Tuesday. The "Quad" security grouping comprises India, the US, Japan, and Australia. End
