MUMBAI – Indian Oil Corp. Ltd. Saturday hiked the retail price of petrol by 87 paise to INR 99.51 per litre. It raised diesel prices by 91 paise per litre to INR 92.49 per litre. The oil marketing company also raised the price of XP95 petrol and XG diesel by 87 paise and 91 paise to INR 106.63 per litre and INR 97.81, respectively. This marks the third fuel price hike by the company in last eight days.
On May 15, IOC had increased petrol and diesel prices by INR 3 each amid supply disruption due to the war in West Asia and the consequent energy shock in India. The company again raised petrol and diesel prices by 90 paise per litre each on Tuesday.
Various brokerages had expected staggered hikes in fuel prices on the back of higher crude oil prices. State-owned oil companies have taken a hit on their margins in the ongoing energy crisis, while ensuring uninterrupted energy imports and supply. This may lead to their losses for the June quarter ballooning to INR 1 trillion – INR 1.20 trillion, a senior oil ministry official said earlier. End
