NEW DELHI - India will remain the fastest growing economy for the next 25 years, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said on Thursday. The free trade agreements India has signed will attract a lot of investments in infrastructure, which will help faster growth in infrastructure, Goyal said.
"One feeds into the other. So it's like a virtuous cycle of growth," Goyal said at the Annual Leadership Summit of the American Chamber of Commerce. "Which is why I often say, it's not the last five years alone, India will continue to be the world's fastest economy for at least the next 25 years."
The Indian economy is estimated to have grown 7.6% in 2025-26 (Apr-Mar). India's GDP growth forecast for FY27 being upgraded to 6.5% from 6.4% by the International Monetary Fund in the middle of the war is reflective of the country's growing ability to engage with the world, Goyal said. India has remained a favoured investment destination amidst all the challenges, he added.
"It's a perfect opportunity for America and India to work together, create more trusted and resilient supply chains, combine American innovation and investment with Indian talent and scale, and make it a defining partnership of the 21st century," the minister said.
In the last six months alone, US-based companies have committed investment of more than $60 billion, Goyal said. "So, my gut felling is that America and India truly are working as natural partners, we complement each other."
Asked about progress of the trade agreement with the US, Goyal told reporters that a negotiation team from US is likely to visit India next month.
The government is working with the industry on creating a high-quality testing infrastructure to help Indian companies, the minister said. "Our effort is that our testing infrastructure in India should be world-class, should be nothing less than the best in the world," he said. End
