IMD issues red alert for heat wave in several districts of Uttar Pradesh Wed

MUMBAI – The India Meteorological Department has issued red alert for heat-wave conditions in several districts of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh for Wednesday. It has also issued an orange alert for a few other districts of these states, as well as Punjab, Haryana, Jharkhand, Karnataka and West Bengal Wednesday. 

 

Severe heat wave conditions are likely to prevail over northwest and central India during the week and over east India during the next five days, IMD said. Warm night conditions are very likely to prevail in some pockets of Odisha till Sunday, Uttar Pradesh on Thursday and Friday, and Vidarbha till Thursday, IMD said.

 

The department sees hot and humid weather conditions prevailing over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal till Saturday, and Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha till Sunday. A gradual fall in maximum temperatures by 2–3 degrees Celsius is likely over Maharashtra till Thursday. No significant change in maximum temperatures is likely over the rest of parts of the country till Tuesday, the weather agency said.

 

Meanwhile, the weather department has also forecast heavy rainfall in parts of Tamil Nadu till Friday, Kerala, Mahe and south Interior Karnataka till Thursday and Lakshadweep on Wednesday. Similar weather is also seen over parts of Arunachal Pradesh on Friday, Monday and Tuesday, it is also likely to receive very heavy rainfall over the weekend, IMD said.  End
