NEW DELHI – Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman Tuesday encouraged US companies to explore opportunities for engagement and long-term collaboration in the nuclear energy space.
Sitharaman met a delegation representing the US nuclear industry, which comprised representatives of the Nuclear Energy Institute, leading US companies, and the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum, and informed the delegation about the reforms undertaken by India under the Sustainable Harnessing and Advancement of Nuclear Energy for Transforming India Act.
"These reforms are expected to accelerate India's clean energy transition, deepen technology partnerships, and enhance investment flows into the country's nuclear ecosystem," the finance ministry said in a post on X, formerly Twitter. "Referring to recent policy initiatives aimed at encouraging global participation in India's nuclear sector, the Union Finance Minister informed the delegation that Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) of up to 49% is now permitted in nuclear power projects."
The finance minister emphasised that technology collaborations and strategic partnerships can serve as critical drivers of innovation and resilience in India's nuclear ecosystem and encouraged participants to actively explore opportunities for engagement, the ministry said. End
