IMD issues red alert for extreme heat in parts of Uttar Pradesh till Thu

MUMBAI – Heatwave to severe heatwave conditions are likely to persist in parts of west Uttar Pradesh till Monday and over east Uttar Pradesh till Wednesday, the India Meteorological Department said. Warm night conditions are also likely over parts of the state till Wednesday, the weather department said. As such, the department has issued a red alert for extreme heat in the state till Thursday. A red alert for extreme heat is issued when a severe heat wave persists in the region for more than two days.
Heatwave to severe heatwave conditions are also expected over parts of Madhya Pradesh till Monday and over Vidarbha till Thursday, the weather bureau said. Heatwave conditions are likely to persist in parts of east Uttar Pradesh and Vidarbha from Friday to Monday, the bureau said. Heatwaves are expected to persist in parts of Andhra Pradesh till Monday, with severe heatwaves in some pockets of the region on Thursday and Friday.
Heatwaves are likely to continue over most parts of northwest, some parts of east, central, and south India till Monday, the weather department said. Hot and humid conditions are expected in parts of Odisha till Saturday, the department said.
The southwest monsoon onset wave remains in the same position as Monday, the weather bureau said. Conditions are favourable for the further advancement of the monsoon into more parts of the southeast Arabian Sea, the Comorin Area, the Bay of Bengal, and the remaining parts of the Andaman Sea in the next three to four days, the bureau said.
The further movement of the southwest monsoon is likely to trigger various weather systems over south peninsular India and east India. These weather systems are likely to cause heavy rainfall over parts of Tamil Nadu and Kerala till Wednesday and over Lakshadweep till Wednesday, the weather department said. Thundersqualls with wind speeds reaching 50–60 kilometres per hour and gusting to 70 km per hour are also expected over parts of Andhra Pradesh till Saturday. Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected over Kerala and Lakshadweep till Monday, the department said.
Heavy rainfall is likely over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands till Monday and over sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim from Thursday to Monday, the weather bureau said. A few spells of very heavy rainfall are also likely over sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on Friday and Saturday, the bureau said. Thundersqualls with wind speeds reaching 50–60 km per hour and gusting to 70 km per hour are likely in several parts of east India till Saturday, while wet spells with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are also expected over parts of the region till Monday, the bureau said.
An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over central Assam, while a trough runs from east Uttar Pradesh to Manipur. These weather systems are likely to cause very heavy rainfall over parts of Arunachal Pradesh during the weekend and over Assam and Meghalaya from Saturday to Monday, the weather bureau said. Heavy rainfall is expected over several parts of northeast India till Monday, the bureau said.
A western disturbance acting as a cyclonic circulation lies over north Pakistan and adjoining Jammu, along with a trough in the westerlies, the weather department said. An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over east Uttar Pradesh, and a trough runs from this cyclonic circulation to Manipur. Another trough runs from east Uttar Pradesh to Lakshadweep, the department said.
Under the influence of these weather systems, thundersqualls with wind speeds reaching 50–60 km per hour and gusting to 70 km per hour are likely over Jammu and Kashmir till Wednesday. Light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over parts of northwest India till Saturday, the weather bureau said. Strong surface winds with speeds reaching 20–30 km per hour and gusting to 40 km per hour are expected over parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh till Monday, the bureau said.
A wet spell accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are likely over Konkan, Goa, and central Maharashtra till Wednesday, the weather department said. End
