MUMBAI – The southwest monsoon advanced further, covering the entire Andaman and Nicobar Islands on Monday, the India Meteorological Department said. Conditions are favourable for its further movement over some more parts of southeast Arabian Sea, the Comorin Area, the Bay of Bengal, and the remaining parts of the Andaman Sea in the next three to four days, the department said.

The advancement of the monsoon has triggered various weather systems over south peninsular India, causing heightened weather activities across the region. Heavy rainfall is likely over parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karnataka, Kerala, and Lakshadweep till Sunday, the weather department said. Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected over most parts of south India till Friday, the department said.

An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over northeast Uttar Pradesh and adjoining Bihar, and another upper air cyclonic circulation lies over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, the weather bureau said. These weather systems are likely to cause heavy rainfall over parts of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands during the week and sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim from Thursday to Sunday, with a few spells of very heavy rainfall over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on Friday. Thundersqualls with wind speeds reaching 50–60 kilometres per hour and gusting to 70 km per hour are also likely over many parts of east India till Wednesday, the bureau said. A wet spell with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds is expected over several parts of the region till Sunday.

Heavy rainfall is expected over multiple parts of northeast India till Sunday, with spells of very heavy rainfall over parts of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya during the weekend, the weather department said.

A western disturbance acting as a cyclonic circulation lies over north Iran, which is likely to cause light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over parts of northwest India till Friday, the weather bureau said. Strong surface winds with speeds reaching 20–30 km per hour and gusting to 40 km per hour are expected over parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigar, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh till Sunday, the bureau said.

A trough runs from west Madhya Pradesh to Lakshadweep, which is likely to cause a wet spell over parts of central Maharashtra, Konkan, and Goa till Wednesday, the bureau said.

Severe heatwave conditions are likely in some pockets of Uttar Pradesh from Tuesday to Sunday, the weather department said. Heatwave conditions are expected to persist in most parts of northwest, some parts of central India, and parts of Andhra Pradesh till Sunday, the department said. Similar conditions are also likely over parts of Bihar and Marathwada till Tuesday, and over Telangana from Tuesday to Thursday.

Warm night conditions are expected in parts of west Uttar Pradesh till Tuesday, the weather bureau said. Hot and humid conditions are likely over parts of Odisha till Friday, and over Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday, the bureau said.  End
