--Govt: Imports from West Asia $10.47 bln April vs $15.32 bln yr ago 

NEW DELHI – India's trade with West Asia continued to suffer in April because of the war between the US and Iran. Shipments to and from the region fell sharply in April, even as India's total goods exports rose to an eight-year high last month, government data showed.

Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal Friday said exports to West Asia fell 28% on year to $4.16 billion. Imports from the region fell 32% on year to $10.47 billion in April.

India exported total goods worth $43.56 billion in April, up 14% on year and the highest since March 2022. India's total goods imports jumped 10% on year to $71.94 billion last month, the highest since October.

Exports to the United Arab Emirates--India's third-largest export destination--fell 36% on year to $2.19 billion in April. Outbound shipments to Saudi Arabia also fell in April, down 3% on year to $852 million. 

Imports from the UAE fell 35% in April to $4.07 billion, reflecting the disruption in trade in the region. Notably, imports from Saudi Arabia and Oman jumped sharply in April. Imports from Saudi Arabia rose 30% on year to $3.85 billion in April, while those from Oman surged 246% to $1.49 billion.  End
