MUMBAI – Housing and Urban Development Corp. Ltd. posted a sharp year-on-year jump in net profit for the March quarter, driven by growth in revenue from operations.
The state-owned company's net profit for the quarter surged over 172% on year to INR 19.81 billion from INR 7.28 billion a year ago. Sequentially, the bottom line rose nearly 178%. The company's revenue rose over 25% year-on-year and about 4% quarter-on-quarter to INR 35.63 billion in the March quarter.
Its total income for Jan-Mar rose nearly 27% on year and above 3% on quarter to INR 36.25 billion. The bottom line of the company received support from a deferred tax credit of INR 15.30 billion for the reporting quarter.
HUDCO's total expenses rose nearly 64% on year and over 11% on quarter to INR 30.04 billion for the March quarter. Of this, finance costs rose to INR 24.13 billion in the March quarter from INR 18.59 billion a year ago. However, the company's expenses on employee benefits fell nearly 7% on year and over 19% sequentially to INR 598 million.
HUDCO will pay final dividend of INR 1.50 per share. The company made a provision of INR 16.21 billion as of Mar. 31, marginally higher than the INR 16.15 billion set aside in the December quarter, on account of the Reserve Bank of India's new norms on expected credit loss.
The provision coverage ratio was at 94.9% as on Mar. 31, up from 85.44% a year ago. For FY26, the housing financier's net profit rose to INR 40.34 billion, up almost 49% on year. Revenue for the period was INR 131.50 billion, up nearly 28% from INR 103.11 billion in FY25. Total income for the 12-month period was INR 133.27 billion, up almost 29% on year.
HUDCO announced its March earnings towards the close of market hours. On Thursday, shares of the company closed 1.8% higher at INR 223.35 on the National Stock Exchange. End
