MUMBAI – Heatwave conditions in many parts of Rajasthan along with severe heatwave conditions in some pockets of West Rajasthan are likely from Sunday to Tuesday, the India Meteorological Department said. Heatwave conditions are also expected over most parts of northwest and central India till Wednesday, over Telangana from Friday to Monday, over Konkan and Goa on Friday and Saturday, and over Saurashtra and Kutch till Friday, the weather department said.

Scattered heatwave conditions are likely to prevail in parts of west Uttar Pradesh from Monday to Wednesday, and over east Uttar Pradesh on Monday and Tuesday, the weather bureau said. Warm night conditions are expected in pockets of west Madhya Pradesh till Friday, with scattered warm night conditions over west Rajasthan from Sunday to Tuesday, the bureau said.

Conditions continue to be favourable for the onset of the southwest monsoon over parts of south Bay of Bengal, the Andaman Sea, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands around Saturday, the weather department said. This will mark an earlier-than-normal advancement of monsoon, as the normal onset date over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands is May 23.

The well-marked low-pressure area over southwest and adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal persisted over the same region, along with associated cyclonic circulation present over the same region, the weather department said. An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over east Bangladesh, while the east-west trough now runs from the upper air cyclonic circulation over southeast Madhya Pradesh to sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, the department said.

Under the influence of the above-mentioned weather systems, very heavy rainfall is likely over Andaman and Nicobar Islands, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim during the weekend, the weather bureau said. Heavy rainfall is also expected over parts of Andaman and Nicobar Islands till Friday and on Monday, and over sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim till Friday, the bureau said. Thundersqualls with wind speeds reaching 50–60 kilometres per hour and gusting to 70 km per hour are likely over Bihar on Saturday and Wednesday, and over Jharkhand on Sunday and Monday. Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected over most parts of east India till Wednesday, it said.

Very heavy rainfall is likely over Assam and Meghalaya on Monday, while heavy rainfall is seen over parts of the same region from Friday to Sunday, the weather bureau said. Heavy showers are also expected over many parts of northeast India till Wednesday, the bureau said.

The upper air cyclonic circulation lying over southeast Madhya Pradesh is likely to cause a wet spell with thundershowers, lightning, and gusty winds over parts of Vidarbha till Friday and over Chhattisgarh till Sunday, the weather department said.

An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over west Uttar Pradesh, and another upper air cyclonic circulation lies over east Uttar Pradesh, the weather bureau said. A fresh western disturbance is likely to begin affecting northwest India from Friday, the bureau said. These weather systems are likely to cause light to moderate rainfall or snowfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over several parts of northwest India till Saturday.

An upper air cyclonic circulation over north interior Karnataka along with the well-marked low pressure over the southwest Bay of Bengal are likely to cause heavy rainfall over parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry till Tuesday, over Kerala till Sunday, and over south interior Karnataka from Friday to Sunday, the weather department said. Hailstorms are expected over parts of north interior Karnataka till Friday. A wet spell accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected over parts of Kerala, interior Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh till Monday, and over Lakshadweep till Friday, the department said.  End
