NEW DELHI – The Election Commission of India Thursday announced the third phase of the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls for 16 states and three Union territories.

The third phase will cover the states of Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Meghalaya, Maharashtra, Odisha, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura, Telangana, Sikkim, and Uttarakhand, as well as the Union territories of Delhi, Chandigarh, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.

During this phase, over 394,000 booth level officers will go from house to house to cover 367.3 million electors. The officers will be assisted by 342,000 booth level agents appointed by political parties during the enumeration phase, the poll panel said in a release. The door-to-door surveys will begin in a staggered manner on May 30 and will continue till Oct. 14.

The final electoral rolls will be brought out between Sep. 6 and Dec 23.

"I appeal to all electors to enthusiastically participate in the Phase 3 of Special Intensive Revision and fill their enumeration forms," Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar said. "SIR is being conducted to ensure that only eligible voters to be included in the electoral rolls," he added.

The Election Commission of India under Gyanesh Kumar has drawn flak from political parties in the opposition, civil society, and rights groups and activists after 2.7 million voters were left out of electoral rolls in West Bengal over a highly controversial "logical discrepancy" plank. The SIR was first conducted in Bihar between June and September 2025, and around 4.7 million voters were deleted.  End
