--RBI: Indian cos raised $5.43 bln via external commercial borrowing in Mar 

 

MUMBAI – Indian companies' fundraising plans abroad took a hit in March because of the war in West Asia. Indian companies raised $5.43 billion in March via external commercial borrowings and foreign currency convertible bonds in March, down over 50% on year, data released by the Reserve Bank of India Thursday showed. 

 

External commercial borrowings in March were around $800 million higher than in February. Of the $5.43 billion raised in the month, $5.22 billion was under general permission, the RBI said. The rest $212 million was under special permission raised by Interglobe Aviation Ltd.

 

Under the general permission category, Rajasthan Part I Power Transmission Ltd. was the biggest borrower, raising $750 million in March for a new project. The tenure was four years and 11 months. 

IIFL Finance Ltd. raised $500 million for on-lending and sub-lending with a maturity period of three years and six months. Adani Transmission Step-One Ltd. raised $500 million for a period of 15 years for refinancing of existing external commercial borrowing, according to the RBI release.
