India gets 21% below-normal rainfall in week to Wed at 10.1 mm, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received average rainfall of 10.1 millimetres in the week ended Wednesday, 21% below the normal of 12.8 millimetres for the period, according to the India Meteorological Department. During Mar. 1–May. 13, the country received 96.0 millimetres of rainfall, 4% above the normal of 92.1 millimetres.
Out of the four homogeneous regions of the country three received below normal rainfall, while one received above normal showers. Rainfall in south peninsular India was 4% above normal at 16.8 millimetres. On the other hand, in east and northeast India rainfall was 32% below normal at 24.4 millimetres and in northwest India, precipitation was 25% below normal at 6.2 millimetres. In central India, rainfall was 27% below normal at 2.8 millimetres.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, 13 received 'deficient' rainfall and seven received 'large deficient' showers. Rainfall was normal in three subdivisions, according to the data. Rainfall was 'large excess' in six subdivisions and 'excess' in another six, the weather department said. One subdivision received no rainfall. End
