NEW DELHI – The National Testing Agency Tuesday announced the cancellation of National Eligibility cum Entrance Test 2026 for medical entrance conducted on May 3 after allegations of question paper leak. The examination will be re-conducted on dates to be notified in coming days, the agency said. The government has referred the matter of paper leak to the Central Bureau of Investigation, it said.

In a statement, the testing agency said the decision was taken on the basis of inputs received from law enforcement agencies and other sources. "The inputs received by NTA, taken together with the findings shared by the law enforcement agencies, established that the present examination process could not be allowed to stand," it said.

The matter came to light when some students found on May 1 that a Telegram channel was allegedly sharing a ‘guess paper'. An investigation by the Rajasthan Police's Special Operations Group found that the ‘guess paper' with 410 questions had about 120-140 questions matching the chemistry and biology sections of the actual question paper.

"This decision has been taken in the interest of students and in recognition of the trust on which the national examination system rests. The agency is conscious that re-conduct will cause real and significant inconvenience to candidates and their families," the statement read.

The testing agency clarified that no fresh registration will be required for the re-test, and no additional examination fee will be levied. The registration data, candidature, and examination centres opted for in the May 2026 cycle will be carried forward to the re-conducted examination. "In addition, fees already paid, will be refunded to the students and the exam will be re-conducted using NTA's internal resources," it said.

The Rajasthan Special Operations Group has detained 13 suspects in connection with the case in Sikar and other areas, including a career counsellor linked to a coaching institute. The probe linked the suspected document to a medical student from Rajathan's Churu who is currently studying at a medical college in Kerala, according to media reports.  End
