MUMBAI – The presence of a trough running from east Arunachal Pradesh to the north Bay of Bengal and an upper air cyclonic circulation lying over south Assam are likely to cause heavy to very heavy rainfall over parts of Assam and Meghalaya from Wednesday to Sunday, and over Arunachal Pradesh on Sunday, the India Meteorological Department said. The same weather systems are also expected to cause heavy rainfall over parts of Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura from Friday to Sunday, over Assam and Meghalaya on Tuesday, and over Arunachal Pradesh from Wednesday to Saturday, the weather department said.

Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds is likely over most parts of northeast India till Friday, the department said.

A western disturbance acting as an upper air cyclonic circulation lies over north Pakistan, the weather bureau said. Under its influence, hailstorms are expected over parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, and Himachal Pradesh till Tuesday, and over Uttarakhand on Tuesday and Wednesday, the bureau said. Light-to-moderate rainfall or snowfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected over several parts of northwestern India till Friday. The bureau has also warned of dust storms over parts of east Rajasthan till Tuesday.

Several weather systems have formed over and near the east and southern regions of the country, which are likely to influence the weather of these regions, as well as some parts of central India, the weather department said. The low-pressure area over the southwest Bay of Bengal off north Sri Lanka coast is likely to become more marked during the next 48 hours. A trough in the easterlies runs from the centre of this low pressure area to the south Lakshadweep area. An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over Southeast Arabian Sea and Lakshadweep adjoining the Kerala coast, and a trough in easterlies runs from this weather system to Marathwada, the department said. A trough runs from southwest Madhya Pradesh to sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and an upper air cyclonic circulation lies over sub-Himalayan West Bengal, the weather department said.

Under the influence of all these weather systems, heavy rainfall is expected over parts of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands from Tuesday to Saturday, and over sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim from Tuesday to Thursday, the weather bureau said. Hailstorms are expected over parts of Bihar on Tuesday. A wet spell accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected over multiple parts of east India till Friday, the bureau said.

In south India, these weather systems are expected to cause heavy rainfall over parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and south interior Karnataka on Friday and Saturday, and over Kerala from Thursday to Sunday, the weather department said. Scattered to fairly widespread thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected over most parts of south peninsular India till Friday, the department said.

A wet spell with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds is also likely over parts of Chhattisgarh from Wednesday to Friday, the weather bureau said.

Heatwave conditions are expected over parts of east Rajasthan and Gujarat till Sunday, over east Rajasthan and west Madhya Pradesh from Tuesday to Friday, over Vidarbha on Thursday and Friday, over central Maharashtra and Marathwada on Tuesday and Wednesday, and over Gujarat till Thursday. Warm night conditions are likely to prevail in pockets of Rajasthan till Friday, the weather bureau said.  End
