BJP way ahead of Trinamool in Bengal; TVK leads in Tamil Nadu

NEW DELHI – Mid-day trends in vote counting for Assembly elections in four states and one Union Territory Monday showed the Bharatiya Janata Party has taken a substantial lead over Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee-led All India Trinamool Congress in West Bengal. The BJP was ahead on 173 seats, while the Trinamool Congress was leading on 85 seats, as per Election Commission of India data at 1200 IST. 

 

In Tamil Nadu, actor Vijay's debutant party, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, marched ahead of both the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazahagam and its traditional rival, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazahagam, with trends showing it was ahead on 107 seats. The AIADMK gained as well, and was ahead on 64 seats, with DMK-led alliance went down the third position with lead in 47 seats only.

 

In neighbouring Kerala, the Congress-led United Democratic Front maintained a healthy lead over the Left Front, with trends showing it was ahead on 82 seats, compared to the latter's 41 seats. 

 

In Assam, the incumbent BJP-led National Democratic Alliance widened the gap with the Congress, leading on 78 of the total 126 seats and seems all return to power. The Congress was ahead on 24 seats only in Assam.

 

In Puducherry, the National Democratic Alliance was ahead on 11 of the 30 seats, while the Congress-DMK alliance had a lead on three seats.  End
