MUMBAI – India's foreign exchange reserves rose $2.36 billion on week to $703.31 billion as of Apr. 17, data released by the Reserve Bank of India Friday showed. Reserves increased in the week when the rupee appreciated over 0.2% against the dollar, owing to firm crude oil prices on the back of the RBI's recent regulatory measures in the foreign exchange segment.
Foreign exchange reserves rose due to an increase of $1.48 billion in foreign currency assets to $557.46 billion. Meanwhile, the value of the central bank's gold holdings rose $790 million to $122.13 billion as of Apr. 17.
Calculated in dollar terms, the RBI's foreign exchange reserves also reflect the impact of appreciation or depreciation of currencies other than the dollar, such as the euro, the pound sterling, and the yen held by the central bank. End
