--Govt OKs INR 149.26-bln outlay for 3rd, 4th Ghaziabad-Sitapur railway lines

NEW DELHI – The Union Cabinet has approved an outlay of INR 149.26 billion for the third and fourth railway lines on the 403-kilometre Ghaziabad-Sitapur stretch in Uttar Pradesh over four years, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said at a media briefing on Saturday. He added that six new stations would be created on this stretch - New Hapur, New Moradabad, New Rampur, New Bareily, New Shahjahanpur, and New Sitapur.

The project will help improve connectivity to distrcits such as Ghaziabad, Hapur, Amroha, Moradabad, Rampur, Bareily, Shahjahapur, Lakhimpur Kheri, Hardoi, and Sitapur, the minister said. Among tourist destinations, the project will improve access to Dudheshwarnath temple, Garhmukteshwar temple, and Dargah Shah Wilayat Jama Masjid. "Ghaziabd-Sitapur is practically amongst the country's most congested sections...in a way, a new coridor will be made here," Vaishnaw said.

According to Vaishnaw, the project will help generate employment to the tune of 27.4 million human days and save INR 28.77 billion in logistics cost every year. It will also help save 1.29 billion kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions every year and facilitate additional freight traffic of 36 million tonnes per annum, he said.   End
