NEW DELHI – India and New Zealand will sign the free trade agreement, negotiations for which were concluded last year, on Apr. 27, Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal said Wednesday. After signing the deal this month, both sides aim to implement it by October, Agrawal added.
Under the trade deal, New Zealand has committed to zero-duty market access for all Indian goods. New Zealand will also invest $20 billion in India over the next 15 years as per the terms of the agreement. Meanwhile, New Delhi committed to cut tariffs on 95% of goods from New Zealand.
Among other recently concluded trade agreements, India aims to sign the free trade agreement with the European Union by December and implement it by March 2027, Agrawal said at a press briefing. Both sides had signed the agreement in January. The trade deal offers tariff concessions on over 95% of export value for both sides.
India also aims to take forward negotiations for a free trade agreement with Canada this year. The two countries held a round of negotiations in March, and have scheduled the next round of talks in early May in New Delhi. End
