MUMBAI – The Reserve Bank of India has cancelled the registration certificates of 54 non-banking finance companies, while 16 other non-banking finance companies, including UBS Finance India Pvt. Ltd., surrendered their registration certificates, the central bank said Wednesday. The RBI did not give any reason for cancelling the registration of these companies. Some of these registrations were granted as far back as in 1998, while the latest one was granted in 2020.

 

Seven of the 16 companies that voluntarily gave up their certificates left the non-banking financial company business, according to the RBI press release. UBS Finance India, formerly called Credit Suisse Finance (India) Pvt. Ltd., was among the seven companies.

 

Five other financial companies, including HDFC Investments Ltd., decided to cancel their registration with the RBI as they ceased to be a legal entity owing to amalgamation, merger, dissolution, and voluntary strike-off, the banking regulator said. The remaining four lenders surrendered their registration certificate as they met the criteria prescribed for an unregistered core investment company which does not require registration, the RBI said.  End
