NEW DELHI – A 'special cell' has been set up for the round-the-clock monitoring of the agricultural sector. The cell will submit a weekly report to the Union agriculture minister regarding the availability of fertilisers, seeds, and pesticides, the ministry said in a release.
The decision was taken during a "high-level meeting" chaired by Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to review preparedness for the upcoming kharif season and ensure stability in the sector amid global uncertainties. As per the release, the minister directed officials to ensure uninterrupted and equitable supply of fertilisers and expedite the rollout of 'Farmer ID' to improve transparency in distribution.
He also ordered strict action against black marketing and hoarding of fertilisers and seeds, asking states to step up enforcement measures. The meeting further reviewed availability of agro-chemicals and inputs required for seed production, including packaging materials, with directions to coordinate with other ministries to avoid shortages, according to the release.
