--Govt: ASEAN-India trade pact committee to hold 12th review meet Mar 30-31
NEW DELHI – India and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations will hold the next round of negotiations on Mar. 30-31 to review the existing trade agreement, the commerce ministry said Monday.
The two sides have so far concluded 11 rounds of talks, reviewing the ASEAN-India Trade in Goods Agreement signed on Aug. 13, 2009. India and ASEAN--comprising Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam--in 2023 decided to meet quarterly for negotiations to review the trade agreement.
The total trade between India and ASEAN has increased substantially since the signing of the trade deal, but primarily on account of higher imports to India. India's trade deficit with ASEAN, at $45.20 billion in 2024-25 (Apr-Mar), was more than India's exports of $38.96 billion to the region. End
