NEW DELHI – With hostilities raging in West Asia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi Monday evening dialled Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Bahrain's King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and thanked them for the support extended to the Indian community in their countries.
Both Saudi Arabia and Bahrain have came under retaliatory fire from Iran after the US and Israel attacked Tehran and killed the country's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and other senior leaders Saturday. The US has military bases in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, besides other countries in West Asia.
"Discussed the evolving situation in West Asia with Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, Prince Mohammed bin Salman," Modi shared on social media platform X. "India condemns the recent attacks on Saudi Arabia in violation of its sovereignty and territorial integrity. We agreed that earliest restoration of regional peace and stability is of utmost importance. I thanked him for looking after the well-being of the Indian community in these difficult times."
The prime minister also said he had had a telephonic conversation with Bahrain's king and condemned the attacks on the country. India stands in solidarity with Bahrain's people in this difficult hour, Modi said, and thanked the king for "the steadfast support extended to the Indian community in Bahrain".
Earlier in the day, Modi had spoken to United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, whom he described as "my brother". End
