Coal India Feb production grows 0.7% on year to 74.7 mln tn, sales fall 3%

AHMEDABAD – Coal India Ltd. reported a 2.8% year-on-year decline in sales to 62 million tonnes in February even as coal production rose 0.7% to 74.7 million tonnes, according to provisional data released by the company Sunday. For Apr-Feb, the company's offtake fell nearly 3% on year to 674.6 million tonnes and production was down 1.7% on year at 683.7 million tonnes.
The company's subsidiary Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd. reported the highest provisional coal production number for the month at 19.9 million tonnes, down 0.3% on year. South Eastern Coalfields Ltd. was the second highest contributor to Coal India's overall production, reporting 2.7% on-year growth to 18.1 million tonnes for February.
Mahanadi Coalfields was the front-runner among Coal India's subsidiaries in terms of sales as well, reporting an offtake of 16.8 million tonnes in February, up 2.2% on year. South Eastern Coalfields reported the second-highest sales figures of 16.1 million tonnes, up 11% on year.
On a consolidated basis for the December quarter, Coal India had reported a net profit of INR 71.57 billion on a revenue of INR 349.24 billion. Friday, its shares had closed 0.7% lower at INR 430.65 on the National Stock Exchange. End
