NEW DELHI – India's goods and services tax collections, excluding cess, grew 8.1% on year to INR 1.836 trillion in February, government data released Sunday showed. Including cess, the GST mop-up rose 2.8% on year to INR 1.888 trillion.

In September, the GST Council had lowered the indirect tax on several goods and services and reduced the number of tax slabs to two--5% and 18%--from four earlier. The council also removed the compensation cess on all items, including tobacco products, for which the levy ended on Jan. 31. The government has instead imposed an excise duty on cigarettes in the range of INR 2,050-INR 8,500 per thousand sticks based on the length and type of product.

In January, GST collections including cess had grown 2.1% on year to INR 1.993 trillion. The government's cess collection fell to INR 52.19 billion in February from INR 138.67 billion a year ago.

Central GST collection in February was INR 374.73 billion, up from INR 352.04 billion a year ago. State GST collection last month was INR 459.00 billion, up from INR 437.04 billion collected in February 2025. Integrated GST mop-up was INR 1.002 trillion, up from INR 908.70 billion a year ago.

Domestic GST revenue grew 5.3% on year in February to INR 1.358 trillion and import revenue increased 17.2% on year to INR 478.37 billion. GST revenue, net of refunds and excluding cess, rose 7.9% on year to INR 1.610 trillion in February. Refunds, excluding for cess, during the month rose 10.2% on year to INR 225.95 billion. The post-settlement revenue of states was INR 887.64 billion in February, up 6% on year.  End
