MUMBAI – The income tax department has dropped its demand for INR 4.65 billion against Aditya Birla Sun Life Insurance, a subsidiary of Aditya Birla Capital Ltd., the company said in an exchange filing Sunday. In November, the Mumbai bench of the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal had asked the assessing officer concerned to re-examine the matter and consider the insurance company's claim.

Aditya Birla Sun Life had approached the appellate tribunal in 2024 after the department had raised the tax demand for the assessment year 2021-22 (Apr-Mar).

For the December quarter, Aditya Birla Capital had, on a consolidated basis, reported a net profit of INR 9.45 billion on a revenue of INR 119.52 billion. Friday, its shares had closed more than 3% lower at INR 344.45 on the National Stock Exchange.  End
