IMD forecasts moderate rainfall over parts of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam Sat

MUMBAI – The India Meteorological Department has forecast moderate rainfall with thunderstorm and lightning over parts of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, and Tamil Nadu on Saturday. Similar weather conditions are seen over parts of sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Kerala, and Mahe till Sunday, it said.

 

An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over northeast Assam and its neighbourhood regions in lower tropospheric levels which will cause rainfall in some parts of northeast India. Similarly, an upper air cyclonic circulation over southeast Arabian Sea off south Kerala coast in lower tropospheric levels is responsible for showers is some parts of southern India. 

 

The weather bureau sees light rainfall and snowfall likely over Jammu-Kashmir from Wednesday to Friday. This is likely to happen under the influence of a fresh western disturbance affecting the western Himalayan region from Wednesday night, the weather bureau said.

 

Under the influence of a subtropical westerly jet stream over northwest India, strong surface winds reaching 20-30 kilometers per hour speed can be seen over Haryana, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh from Sunday to Wednesday. Strong surface winds can also be seen over Assam and Meghalaya till Monday, the department said.

 

Meanwhile, the weather agency has forecast hot and humid conditions to prevail in some parts of Konkan, Goa and Gujarat from Wednesday to Friday. In addition, maximum temperatures are likely to be above normal by 3-5 degrees Celsius over many parts of northwest India during the week.  End
