NEW DELHI – The Nifty Bank index is expected to be volatile but stay in a range of 60,000–61,750 points next week, analysts said. Global uncertainties such as the US-Iran tension are likely to weigh on the market, analysts said.
"Volatility is likely to remain elevated amid uncertain global cues. In the near-term, index is likely to trade in the range of 60,000-61,750," Bajaj Broking Market said in a note. "A decisive move beyond this range could trigger fresh directional momentum."
The Nifty Bank Friday settled at 60529 points, down 1.1% from the previous week. This compared with a 1.5% fall in the Nifty 50 this week.
Nifty Bank was weighed down by IDFC FIRST Bank, which fell 12% this week after the bank detected a near INR 6 billion fraud at one of its branches in Chandigarh. AU Small Finance, which was de-empanelled by Haryana government along with IDFC FIRST Bank, fell nearly 7% this week.
Bank of Baroda and IndusInd Bank were the biggest gainers in the index this week. State Bank of India was down 1.2% from the previous week.
"Bank Nifty formed a bearish candle with a lower high and a lower low signaling profit booking at higher levels. Immediate support is seen at 60,200-60,000 levels being the confluence of the 50 days EMA (Exponential Moving Average) and the key retracement of the previous up move," Bajaj Broking said.
