NEW DELHI – India's foreign exchange reserves came off a record high and fell to $723.61 billion in the week ended Feb. 20, data released by the Reserve Bank of India Friday showed. The reserves fell $2.12 billion on week. In the week ended Feb. 13, India's foreign exchange reserves had hit an all-time high of $725.73 billion.

The value of the central bank's gold holdings fell to $127.49 billion in the reporting week, down $977 million from the previous week. Foreign currency assets fell $1.04 billion from the previous week to $572.56 billion as of Feb. 20.

Calculated in dollar terms, the RBI's foreign exchange reserves also reflect the impact of appreciation or depreciation of currencies other than the dollar, such as the euro, the pound sterling, and the yen, held by the central bank. In the week ended Feb. 20, the rupee fell 0.4% against the dollar, with the central bank intervening through dollar sales to prevent excessive depreciation.  End
