IMD sees wet spell, thunderstorms over parts of east India, Kerala till Sat

MUMBAI – An upper cyclonic circulation lying over the southeast Bay of Bengal is likely to cause light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on Friday and Saturday, and over Kerala till Saturday, the India Meteorological Department said. 

 

A western disturbance lies to the northwest of the country, which is likely to cause light rainfall or snowfall over parts of Jammu and Kashmir till Friday and over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on Friday. Another western disturbance is expected to affect the western Himalayan region from Monday, which is likely to cause light rainfall or snowfall over parts of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh from Sunday to Wednesday, the weather department said.

 

Dense fog conditions are expected to persist during the morning hours in parts of Punjab till Saturday, the weather bureau said.

 

Maximum temperatures are likely to gradually rise 2–4 degrees Celsius over the plains of northwest India in the next seven days, which is expected to keep temperatures above normal by 3–5 degrees Celsius in many parts of the region during the week, the weather bureau said.

 

In Maharashtra, the maximum temperature is expected to gradually rise 3–4 degrees Celsius in the next five days, the weather department said. In Gujarat, the maximum temperature is expected to fall 2 degrees Celsius in the next three days, after which it is likely to gradually rise 3–5 degrees Celsius in the subsequent four days, the department said.

 

In central India, maximum temperatures are expected to gradually rise 3–5 degrees Celsius in the next seven days. No significant change in maximum temperatures is likely over east India in the next two days, and thereafter, it is expected to gradually rise 2–4 degrees Celsius in the subsequent five days, the weather department said.

 

Maximum temperatures across west, central, east, and northern peninsular India are likely to rise gradually, the weather department said. By the end of the week, temperatures over these regions are expected to be 2–4 degrees Celsius above normal, the department said.  End
