NEW DELHI – The Reserve Bank of India's house price index rose 3.6% on year in the December quarter compared with a 6.9% rise in the year-ago quarter, with cities like Nagpur, Chandigarh, and Jaipur contributing to the rise, the central bank said Wednesday. On a sequential basis, the index grew 1.2% in the December quarter, contributed largely by Jaipur, Kanpur, and Chennai.

Since the June quarter, the RBI is releasing the quarterly house price index with a new base year of 2022-23 (Apr-Mar). The index now covers 18 major cities, after the RBI added Hyderabad, Thiruvananthapuram, Pune, Ghaziabad, Thane, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Chandigarh, and Nagpur in the new series.

The value of house price index rose to 115.6 in Oct-Dec from 114.2 in Jul-Sept owing to a decrease in the index for major cities, the central bank said. The RBI compiles house price index on a quarterly basis based on transaction-level data received from the registration authorities.  End
