MUMBAI – An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over south interior Karnataka, while another such system lies over central Maharashtra, and a trough runs from northwest Tamil Nadu to central Maharashtra, the India Meteorological Department said. Under the influence of these weather systems, light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely over parts of north interior Karnataka till Thursday and over Telangana on Thursday, the weather department said.

Currently, a western disturbance lies to the northwest of the country, which is likely to cause rainfall or snowfall over parts of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday and Friday and over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on Friday and Saturday, the weather department said. Another western disturbance is expected to form soon, which is likely to affect the western Himalayan region from Monday, the department said.

The weather bureau has warned about dense fog conditions during the morning hours in parts of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh on Thursday.

Maximum temperatures over the plains of northwest and central India are expected to gradually rise 2–3 degrees Celsius in the next seven days, the weather bureau said. As such, maximum temperatures over the region are likely to be 3–5 degrees Celsius above normal during the week, the bureau said.

No significant change is seen in the maximum temperature over Maharashtra in the next 24 hours, after which it is likely to gradually rise 2–3 degrees Celsius in the subsequent six days, the weather bureau said. In east India, no significant change in maximum temperature is expected in the next two days, and thereafter a gradual rise by 2–3 degrees Celsius is likely in the subsequent five days, the bureau said.

No major change in maximum temperatures is likely over the rest of the country, the weather department said.

In the past 24 hours, the maximum temperature in Jammu and Kashmir remained "markedly" above normal by more than 6.5 degrees Celsius, and "appreciably" above normal by 3–5 degrees Celsius in Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Rajasthan, west Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Bihar, and Gangetic West Bengal, the weather department said. Minimum temperatures were also "appreciably" above normal by 3–5 degrees Celsius over Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Bihar, the department said.  End
