NEW DELHI – Bharti Airtel Ltd. Monday said its non-banking financial services arm, Airtel Money Ltd., will be capitalised with INR 200 billion over the next few years as it seeks to deepen its presence in the digital financial services market. The company will contribute 70% of these funds while its promoter group, Bharti Enterprises Ltd., will invest the remaining 30%, it said in an exchange filing.
The Reserve Bank of India had granted an NBFC licence to Airtel Money on Feb. 13. Calling this 'strategic' expansion a 'natural adjacency', Bharti Airtel said it seeks to leverage its customer base to build its next growth engine. Airtel Money serves around 45 million customers, according to Bharti Airtel's Annual Report for 2024-25 (Apr-Mar). In July, Bharti Airtel had incorporated Airtel Money as a new step-down wholly owned subsidiary. Airtel Money has already disbursed over INR 90 billion.
"The success of our LSP (lending service provider) platform over the past two years is proof of our ability to combine technology, data, and customer trust to deliver impact at a national scale," Bharti Airtel's Executive Vice Chairman Gopal Vittal said in a press release. Bharti Airtel said the company would maintain operational segregation between its own operations and those of Airtel Money.
For the quarter ended December, Bharti Airtel had reported consolidated net profit of INR 66.31 billion on revenue of INR 539.82 billion. Monday, its shares ended at INR 1,997.30 on the National Stock Exchange, up 1% from the previous close. End
