RBI adds 160 kg gold in Jan; reserves at 880.34 tn

MUMBAI – The Reserve Bank of India added 160 kilograms of gold to its reserves in January, with total holding rising to 880.34 tonnes as of Jan. 30, according to the central bank's monthly bulletin.

 

The RBI's gold reserves were valued at $137.68 billion as of Jan. 30, accounting for 19% of its total foreign exchange reserves of $723.77 billion. The monthly average price of gold in Mumbai rose to INR 131,172 per 10 grams in December from INR 122,962 per 10 grams in November, and up from INR 76,195 per 10 grams in December 2024, the bulletin said, citing India Bullion and Jewellers Association data.

 

At 1635 IST, the April gold contract on COMEX was at $5,182.3 per ounce, up 2.0% from the previous close. The April contract on the Multi Commodity Exchange of India was up 1.9% at INR 159,909 per 10 grams.  End
