MUMBAI – Maximum temperatures over northwest India are expected to gradually rise by 2–3 degrees Celsius in the next four days, the India Meteorological Department said. As such, maximum temperatures are likely to be 3–5 degrees above normal over the region during the week, the department said.
The maximum temperature over Vidarbha in Maharashtra and neighbouring Chhattisgarh is likely to gradually fall by 2 degrees Celsius over the next three days, after which a gradual rise by 2–3 degrees Celsius is expected over the subsequent four days, the weather bureau said. No significant change in maximum temperature is expected over Maharashtra in the next 24 hours. Thereafter a gradual rise by 2–3 degrees Celsius is likely over the subsequent six days, the bureau said.
In Gujarat, the maximum temperature is expected to fall gradually by 2–3 degrees Celsius in the next 24 hours, the weather department said. No significant change in maximum temperature is likely over the rest of the country, the department said.
Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely over parts of Odisha, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, and Telangana till Tuesday and over Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh Tuesday and Wednesday due the presence of multiple weather systems, the weather department said.
The well-marked low pressure area over the southwest Bay of Bengal moved northeastwards and weakened into a low pressure area over the same region in the early hours of Monday. It is likely to continue moving in the same direction and weaken gradually in the next 24 hours. An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over central Assam and its neighbourhood while a trough runs from northwest Uttar Pradesh to Gujarat. Another trough runs from Gangetic West Bengal to north coastal Andhra Pradesh, the department said. A combination of these weather systems is expected to cause a wet spell over several parts of east, central, and south India till Wednesday, it said.
Dense fog conditions are expected during the morning hours over parts of Punjab till Tuesday, the weather department said. Visibility drops to 0–50 metres in "very dense fog" conditions and to 51–200 metres in "dense fog" conditions. End
