HCL-Foxconn JV prepares to serve 25% home demand for display driver chips

NEW DELHI – India Chip Pvt. Ltd., a joint venture between HCL Group and Hon Hai Technology Group, could cater to 25% of India's demand for display driver chips from its Jewar plant, a senior official from HCL Group said at a media briefing Saturday.
"We do see that the maximum demand will come from India itself. Typically around 60% to 70% of my demand should get consumed domestically...we are doing the projections now but largely, the domestic market will definitely be a large focus," the official told reporters at the ground breaking ceremony of India Chip's outsourced semiconductor assembly and test, or OSAT, facility in Jewar, Greater Noida.
India Chip is a 60:40 joint venture between HCL Group and the Foxconn Group, which is formally known as Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. Ltd. The advanced outsourced semiconductor assembly and test facility is expected to be operational by 2028 and produce 20,000 wafers and 36 million display driver chips per month at full capacity.
As part of the future expansion, the company plans to incorporate additional production lines, which could take the overall capacity to 40,000 wafers or even 80,000 wafers per month, the senior official said. "That's the reason that we have this 48-acre land parcel, wherein the entire facility will typically come in 15-20 acres first. The phase two will come in the balance," he added. End
