MUMBAI – The Securities and Exchange Board of India is working at simplifying processes and reduce documentation related to alternative investment products, Chairman Tuhin Kanta Pandey said. The market regulator is also exploring proposals to widen the accreditation framework for such products, he said.
SEBI will focus on improving liquidity in alternative investment products and increase participation, and push for higher volume of issuance of these products, Pandey said in an address at Crisil Investment Conclave 2026 on Friday.
"To expand the use of REITs (Real Estate Investment Trusts) and InvITs (Infrastructure Investment Trusts), we are actively engaging with the Ministry of Finance and state governments for public asset monetisation," Pandey said. "This can unlock value from completed assets and recycle capital into new infrastructure."
Pandey said alternative investment products provide a patient, flexible, and risk-bearing funding. "Indian economy needs long-gestation capital...Traditional channels alone cannot meet this demand," he said. End
