MUMBAI – Under the influence of multiple weather systems, a wet spell accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely over parts of Vidarbha Tuesday, over Chhattisgarh and Odisha on Monday and Tuesday, over Kerala on Monday, over south interior Karnataka from Saturday to Tuesday, and over coastal and north interior Karnataka from Sunday to Tuesday, the India Meteorological Department said.

A low pressure area currently lies over the equatorial Indian Ocean and the adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal, with an associated upper air cyclonic circulation over the same area. Another upper air cyclonic circulation lies over the same region, which is likely to lead to the formation of another low pressure area in the next 48 hours. A trough extends from one of these cyclonic circulations to Lakshadweep across south Tamil Nadu and south Kerala. A third upper air cyclonic circulation lies over east Bangladesh, the weather department said.

A combination of all these weather systems is expected to cause a wet spell over the aforementioned states in parts of east, central, and south India. These weather systems are also likely to cause heavy rainfall over parts of Tamil Nadu and Kerala over the weekend, the weather department said.

A western disturbance acting as a trough runs from central Uttar Pradesh to north Gujarat across east Rajasthan, the weather bureau said. Another feeble western disturbance is likely to form on Sunday, the bureau said. The two weather systems are likely to cause rainfall or snowfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning over parts of Uttarakhand from Sunday to Tuesday, it said. Rainfall or snowfall is also expected over parts of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh on Sunday and Monday.

No significant change in minimum temperatures is likely over Maharashtra in the next four days, after which a gradual fall by 2–4 degrees Celsius is expected in the subsequent three days, the weather department said. In Gujarat, no major change in minimum temperature is expected in the next two days, and thereafter a gradual fall by 2–3 degrees Celsius is seen, the department said. No significant change in minimum temperatures is expected over the rest of the country, it said.

Maximum temperatures over northwest India are expected to rise gradually by 2–4 degrees Celsius in the next seven days, the weather bureau said. In central India, maximum temperatures are likely to rise slowly by 2–3 degrees Celsius in the next two days, the bureau said. In Gujarat and Maharashtra, maximum temperatures are expected to gradually rise by 2–3 degrees Celsius in the next three days, and thereafter they are likely to gradually fall in the same range in the subsequent four to five days, the bureau said.  End
