NEW DELHI – The Gates Foundation will launch 'Advantage India for artificial intelligence', an initiative that will bring innovators and philanthropists across India and the Global South to advance AI for social good, Gates Foundation Africa and India offices President and Chief Strategy Officer Ankur Vora said Thursday.

"Globally, the Gates Foundation has three objectives – no mother or baby should die of preventable causes, the next generation of people should grow up in a world without infectious diseases, and millions of people should escape the clutches of poverty," Vora said at the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi.

"AI can accelerate progress across all three. For the first time, we can deliver precision at scale. Replacing one-size-fits-all solutions with the right-fit solutions that are cheaper, faster and more inclusive. To support these efforts, the Gates Foundation is launching 'Advantage India for AI'. Yes, that is AI for AI."

Vora said that AI can not only speed up innovation but also help bring that innovation to community clinics, health workers, and the patients who depend on them. "Another area where AI can make a difference is education. There are two areas in education. First, accurately assessing where each child is in her/his learning journey. Second, when the teacher knows that, helping her customise that lesson for that child," he said.

Vora addressed the summit after Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft and chair of the Gates Foundation, pulled out of a keynote speech. Gates' decision to pull out from the event came amid the row over his name appearing in the Epstein files. End
