Modi meets global leaders on AI Summit sidelines, discusses improving ties

MUMBAI – Prime Minister Narendra Modi Wednesday met presidents and prime ministers of several nations on the sidelines of India AI Impact Summit, including Spain's President Pedro Sanchez. Modi and Sanchez reviewed India–Spain relations and expressed confidence in expanding bilateral ties. The two leaders discussed India and Spain's trade and investment, technology, infrastructure, climate and renewable energy, defence and security, space, culture, tourism and people-to-people exchanges.
"President Sanchez highlighted the importance of the AI Impact Summit and expressed confidence that its outcomes would contribute meaningfully to shaping global AI governance," the prime minister's office said in a release. "The two leaders recognised artificial intelligence as a transformative force and underlined the need for closer India–Spain cooperation to leverage its potential for inclusive development and societal benefit."
Modi also met Andrej Plenkovic, prime minister of Croatia, and discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation including in trade and investment, science and technology, connectivity, cultural exchanges and people-to-people ties. Petteri Orpo, prime minister of Finland, and Modi called for doubling bilateral trade and greater technology collaboration, including in co-development of quantum and 6G, renewables, circular economy and defence.
Modi met Bhutan's Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay and the two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to advance cooperation in priority areas of energy, connectivity and development partnership.
Aleksandar Vucic, president of Serbia, and Modi discussed avenues to strengthen bilateral cooperation in trade and investment, artificial intelligence, fin-tech, education, agriculture, and people-to-people exchanges.
With Kazakhstan Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, Modi reviewed bilateral cooperation in critical minerals, rare earths, trade, defence and security, energy, and emerging technologies.
