MUMBAI – India and France have agreed to remove double taxation for companies and individuals in a move aimed at boosting trade, investment, and mobility, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Tuesday. The two countries also decided to elevate their ties to a special global strategic partnership, PM Modi announced at a press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron in Mumbai.

"Based on trust and shared vision, today we are establishing our relations as special global strategic partnership. This partnership is not just strategic," PM Modi said. "In today's tumultuous world, this is a partnership of global stability and global progress."

President Macron said France will work with India on fifth-generation fighter jets, submarines, and high-speed railways. France will also work with India on innovation and technology transfer, he said.

Macron's visit to India comes a month after India concluded a free trade agreement with the European Union. While New Delhi has offered to cut duty on 96.6% of export value of the EU, Brussels has committed to cut duty on 99% of Indian export value under the trade deal.

India and France are deepening ties on critical minerals, bio-technology, and advanced materials, PM Modi said. The two nations will also set up joint centres for artificial intelligence and skilling in aeronautics, he said. India and France will also connect innovators across industries and will also set up centres for join innovation, the prime minister said.

"These are not just institutions, but future building platforms," Modi said. "Today, the world is going through uncertainty. In such an environment, India-France partnership is a force for global stability."

France is working with India on Rafale jets, submarines, engines of fifth-generation fighter jets, and high-speed railways, Macron said. France wants to continue working with India on better innovation and technology transfer, the French president said.  End
