NEW DELHI – Indian financial sector companies, including banks and non-banking finance companies, plan to set up a cybersecurity agency called India Digital Intelligence Organisation to identify early signs of digital fraud and prevent them, two finance ministry officials said. The government will soon notify the entity and appoint a chief executive officer, one of the officials said.
The agency will collect data from banks and government departments, such as the Department of Telecommunications, to identify suspicious transactions, the official said. State-owned financial companies will hold 50% stake in the organisation, though the government will not have any direct ownership, the official said. Some fintech companies will also be a part of the organisation.
The new organisation to be based in Mumbai is likely to be headed by a retired managing director of a public-sector bank, the official said. End
