NEW DELHI – The government will continue to provide credit support to exporters under the Export Promotion Mission irrespective of the conclusion of the trade deal with the US, Department of Financial Services Secretary M. Nagaraju said Tuesday. The sub-schemes under the mission will continue if there is demand, Nagaraju said.
After the US imposed a 50% tariff, including a 25% punitive tariff, on Indian goods in August, the government announced the rollout of the Export Promotion Mission to support exporters. India and the US announced a trade deal, under which Washington has committed to cutting the reciprocal tariff on Indian goods to 18% from 25%. The White House has also scrapped the 25% penal tariff after the deal.
India's trade deals with the US and the European Union are set to bring bright prospects for Indian exporters, Nagaraju told the media at the inauguration of Exim Bank's 10th edition of Exim Bazaar. India concluded a free trade agreement with the EU in January.
Speaking about cybersecurity, Nagaraju said it will remain a concern given the extensive internet access in India. But the Indian financial system is also well prepared to manage cybersecurity risks, he said. End
