NEW DELHI – India is expected to get investments of more than $200 billion towards artificial intelligence and data infrastructure over the next two years, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw told a press conference at the India AI Impact Summit 2026 Tuesday.

Monday, Vaishnaw had said India is in talks with officials from over 30 countries regarding technical and legal solutions tied to the misuse of artificial intelligence in media. "We are seeing interest in making AI accountable to the society, making sure that we can get the benefits of the technology while we can contain the harms which can come from it," Vaishnaw said.

Addressing questions from the media, Vaishnaw said the information technology industry remains one of India's biggest strengths, noting that any major technological transition must be jointly managed by the industry and the government. The government is working closely with the technology sector to upskill and reskill the workforce, he said, adding that the government is also working to update academic curricula to ensure the younger generation stays aligned with evolving technological needs.

The minister apologised for the issues witnessed on the opening day of the summit, calling the turnout "phenomenal". He added that the government is committed to addressing concerns and ensuring a smoother experience for the attendees. The opening day of the AI Impact Summit saw organisational issues like long queues, overcrowding, and technological failures. The event is scheduled to end Friday.  End
